Fuar is a collection of 46 photos that I took from all across Dublin, accompanied by Dick Gaughan's “Workers Song.” I started this piece in late November after having a lengthy conversation with a homeless woman outside the DayBreak on Patrick street, while at the same time I was hearing a lot of empty promises and a lack of accountability from politicians. I chose to call the collection Fuar, as the cold is something that affects these forgotten people and places more than others.
I decided to take pictures of scenes that show the coldness of the city, and of spaces that the government is choosing to ignore. The lyrics in 'Workers Song' are a perfect fit for what's happening in Ireland at the moment. I learnt the guitar part, whacked up a few fairy lights in the back, and recorded it on a drizzly, cold December night.
